In December of 1952 Harvey became the sole publisher of Casper comic books. ![]() Casper quickly became one of the most celebrated cartoon characters in popular culture. In 1950, as Casper gained tremendous popularity, Paramount expanded the cartoons into an entire television series. Casper reappeared when Paramount released There's Good Boos To-Night in 1948 and A Haunting We Will Go in 1949. In 1945 Casper made his first appearance when Paramount released The Friendly Ghost. Friends like cousin Spooky, Wendy the Good Witch and Nightmare the Ghostly Horse round out Casper's supporting cast. In the Harvey comics, Casper would explore an enchanted forest, while the antagonizing Ghostly Trio would tease and heckle. In the original Paramount cartoons, Casper would often frighten some unsuspecting grown-up while befriending "Little Billy" or a small animal, but he'd then rescue one of them from a perilous predicament to become a local hero.
